The 2026 Alfa Romeo Tonale still wears a concave scudetto

The updated 2026 Tonale face is more specific than a triangular badge surround. Alfa Romeo describes a Dark Miron concave V Scudetto grille inspired by the 33 Stradale, paired with enlarged air intakes, on its U.S. model page. “Concave” refers to the grille’s recessed surface; it is a description of shape, not a new drivetrain designation.

Read the center shield together with the lower openings. The shield keeps the brand identity while the enlarged lower intake area changes the balance of the nose. That makes the face useful when comparing manufacturer photographs of the refreshed and earlier Tonale. A shield-shaped grille alone is too broad a clue because other Alfa Romeo models also use it.

The U.S. powertrain question has a different answer. The page’s explicitly U.S. 2026 FAQ says the model uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, a nine-speed automatic and standard Q4 all-wheel drive, and that the U.S. 2026 version is gas-powered only. The same page contains foreign-market material about a plug-in hybrid; it should not be carried into a U.S. specification without a market qualifier.

That market boundary matters more than the number or finish of the lower openings. An imported photograph, an earlier plug-in model and a U.S. 2026 vehicle can share much of the same visual identity while having different powertrains. Check the year and market on the vehicle record before interpreting a Q4 badge.

The grille is therefore a useful facelift clue, with limits. It does not establish a launch date, local inventory or the full Sport Speciale equipment list. This article concentrates on the restyled production design and the U.S. specification the manufacturer identifies, rather than implying that the grille verifies every option.
